Resistance Groups
Apolonio de Carvalho (born in Corumba on February 9, 1912; died
Rio de Janeiro, September 23, 2005) was a Brazilian socialist important in the
history of the Workers' Party (Brazil). Carvalho fought for the republicans in
the Spanish civil war and against the Nazi occupation of France, where he is
considered a hero in their resistance group. He was praised by Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

Jose Aboulker (5 March 1920 – 17 November 2009) was a member of
the anti-Nazi resistance who co-founded a resistance network in Algiers in World
War II and emerged as one of the main leaders of the resistance movement in
North Africa. After the war he became a neurosurgeon and emerged as a political
figure in France.

Lucie Samuel, was born June 29, 1912, and died March 14, 2007, so
is more known as Lucie Aubrac, she started in the French Resistance after the
fall of France, Lucie Joined the Liberation-stud resistance group in Lyon after
it formation by her husband. Later she followed him to the Charles Delisting’s
group, In 1941 they joined forced with Emmanuel d’Astier to run the underground
newspaper, Liberation, the same year their first child, Jean- Pierre, was born

After the war, Paul Bacon continued his political career. A member of
the Christian Democratic Popular Republican Movement (MRP), he was Member of the
two National Constituent Assemblies (1945–46) and then of the National Assembly
from 1946 to 1958 representing the Seine Department. He was Secretary of state
in the prime minister's office in 1959-1960, Minister of Labor and Social
security (with some interruptions during the cabinets of Piney and of
Mendes-France) from 1950 to 1956 and again in 1957-1959. He was Minister of
Labor in De Gaulle, Debreu and Pompidou governments from 1958 to 1962. With the
other MRP ministers, he resigned in protest after De Gaulle's press conference
about European integration in May 1962. He sat in the Economic and Social
Council from 1962 to 1964.

Marie-Helene Lefaucheux was a French women's and human rights
activist. During World War II, she was a member of the French Resistance and
orchestrated her husband's release from Buchenwald concentration camp after he
was captured by the Gestapo. She was the sole woman in the French delegation to
the first General Assembly of the United Nations. Lefaucheux helped found the
UN's Commission on the Status of Women and was its chair from 1948 to 1953.
